Provided is a fuel property determining apparatus for an engine that retards a fuel injection timing and determines a fuel property based on a combustion change of the engine caused by the deceleration. The apparatus includes a processor configured to control a parameter related to combustibility to degrade a combustion condition before the fuel injection timing is delayed, the parameter being different from the fuel injection timing.
