The present invention relates to the reduction in harmonic signals in ft - icr - spectra. Since harmonic signals in the quadrupole arene 2ω - detection for the same ion movement in the icr - cell more frequently than in comparison to harmonic signals in the classical dipolar 1ω - detection can occur, they could by means of known methods, such as, for example, the switched deflection during the ions introduction into the icr - cell or the correction of an offset electrical field axis in the icr - cell, it has not yet be reduced in a satisfactory intensities. The present disclosure provides that in addition to other methods, which, for example, to improve the measuring conditions are carried out, the quadrupolar 2ω - detection is carried out at least twice, wherein the phase of the ions stimulation - high frequency in the second measurement is rotated by 180°. From the signal of the added transient, one obtains a fourier-transformed spectrum. As a result, the wide band spectra of complex mixtures of substances, such as, for example, petroleum, clean, and the risk of incorrect interpretations of false (harmonic) peaks is minimized.
