The invention relates to a method for forming an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on an anode of a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium battery cell comprising the steps: a) providing an anode for a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium battery cell; b) dissolving at least one polyvinyl acetal in at least one aprotic nonpolar organic solvent; c) addition of at least one lithium-containing base to the solution according to b), whereby a substitution of the acidic protons of the at least one polyvinyl acetal by lithium ions takes place; d) separating excess lithium-containing base / excess lithium-containing bases, preferably by means of decanting or filtration; e) application of the polymer solution obtained after step d) on the anode, preferably by spraying the anode with the polymer solution or by immersing the anode in the polymer solution; and f) Dry or dry the anode. The present invention also relates to an anode having such an SEI for a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium battery cell and a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium battery cell having such an anode.
