It is an apparatus for assisting the design of a jig that supports a designer and that can produce a coarse virtual model of a jig by simple operation, and a robot simulation apparatus. The support device comprises a display unit; a storage unit that stores three-dimensional models of workpieces and jigs; a workpiece determination unit that determines the type of the workpiece; a work placing unit that automatically arranges the given work in a state attached to a mounting plate in a three-dimensional space; a block selection unit that selects the type and arrangement direction of a positioning block; a clamp selecting unit that selects the type of clamp; a model area determining unit that determines an area of the workpiece model; a chuck arrangement unit that arranges the positioning block or the clamping device in the three-dimensional space based on the determined area and the selection contents; and an adjustment unit that automatically adjusts the dimensions or shape of the three-dimensional model of the positioning block or the clamping device according to the dimensions or shape of the particular workpiece.
