The invention relates to a method for positioning a vehicle cabin center console (4) on a vehicle floor (8) in a predetermined mounting position relative to a dashboard (2) of a motor vehicle. The method uses a positioning tool (10) having a longitudinal direction (X3) which can be indexed on the one hand on the dashboard (2), in particular at a central portion thereof, and on the other hand on a support plate (7) of the center console. When indexed, the longitudinal direction (X3) of the positioning tool is parallel to, or even aligned with, a mounting axis (X1) of the dashboard, which is intended for mounting the central console, and a longitudinal axis of the center console.
