The invention proposes a characterization of an electrochemical device in operation for a prognosis of future operation of the device with in particular: * Memory storage (MEM), for a given type of device, of a plurality of variation models in the time of at least one operating parameter of the device, as a function of the respective operating points of the device, and * The implementation of a processor (PROC) accessing this memory and comprising at least one connection to the device for : - Obtain information relating to a current operating point of the device, - Recover in the memory at least one variation model corresponding to the current operating point of the device, - Receive from the device at least one measurement of a current value of the operating parameter, - Comparing said measurement with the variation model recovered from the memory, for temporally locating the operation of the device, and, from there, - Is imer a prognosis of operation of the device.
