A three-dimensional full parallax full-colour thin hologram containing a recorded three- dimensional full parallax full-colour holographic image (20) in a body (10) of optical recording material, wherein: the holographic image (20) recorded in the hologram comprises a plurality of discrete portions (30a, 30b, 30c), each portion being defined by an optical, and optionally spatial, property, e.g. colour, which has a different magnitude and/or identity from the optical, and optionally spatial, properties of the other portion(s) of the image (20), and the recorded holographic image (20) so separated into its discrete portions (30a, 30b, 30c) is reconstructable into a complete visible three-dimensional full parallax full-colour holographic image (Im) by illumination of the hologram by a plurality of discrete sources of electromagnetic radiation (60a, 60b, 60c) whose respective optical and spatial properties, e.g. colour, match or correspond to those of each respective portion (30a, 30b, 30c) of the image (Im) to be reconstructed thereby, the complete holographic image being reconstructable by reconstructing the discrete portions of the image substantially simultaneously with each other by illuminating the hologram by the plurality of electromagnetic radiation sources substantially simultaneously with each other.
