A replacement insert 36 suitable for connecting a wind turbine blade to a hub of the wind turbine, and comprises a bushing 70 which has first and second ends 78 & 80, an outer surface 96 and an internal passageway 82, the insert also has a cover 72 around at least a portion of the outer surface, the insert has a non-circular cross sectional profile. An alternative aspect of the invention has a plurality of protrusions 172 from the surface which define a gap between the insert and a cavity of the blade into which it is inserted. The cover may be formed of composite material and may include multiple layers of fibrous material. The insert may have narrowed tip and there may be a seal in the internal passage.
