A process of manufacturing a carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) preform 410, and preform thereof, comprises the steps of applying at least one layer of adhesive, e.g. resin 412, and at least one layer of carbon fibre 413 onto a bladder 411; preferably wherein a plurality of layers 414 of resin and carbon fibre are applied alternately to the bladder which may be inflated. The adhesive may be applied by spraying or winding a tape of resin film; the carbon fibre layer is preferably applied by braiding a dry carbon fibre around the bladder which forms an inflated tubular mandrel. A process of manufacturing a CFRP element is also disclosed comprising positioning a preform 410 comprising carbon fibre and adhesive on a bladder within a mould 421, 422 defining a final shape of the element; introducing a heated and pressurised fluid 302 into the bladder so as to infuse the resin into the fibre and to obtain a cured CFRP element such that the preform is cured form the inside.
