The method involves placing fabrics in a rotatably mounted washing drum (7). The fabrics are subjected to hot steam at intervals, where the hot steam is produced in a steam generator (5) integrated in a domestic appliance and transported via a short transport path. The fabrics are subjected to hot air. A direction of the hot steam flowing into the drum is directed against a flow of dry air of the appliance. The generator is controlled such that a preset quantity of water is supplied to the generator during reaching a working temperature of 120 to 200 degree Celsius.
