In this way, the particular traffic characteristics of the user equipment can be estimated and provided to the network in order to assist the network when determining how best to allocate resources to support the user equipment. This enables the network to better match the resources allocated to the likely traffic profile of the user equipment. This helps to better match the resource allocation to the user equipment to avoid periods when resources are allocated but no traffic occurs or when traffic is available but the resources are.
