Interface between a production management system and an automation system

The server has a long term data memory (16) for storing raw data i.e. operational parameter, of a component (14) of an automation system e.g. machine tool, detected by a data detection unit (15a). A data analyzing unit (17) analyzes the raw data stored in the long term data memory. A configuration unit (18) configures the data analyzing unit with respect to an implemented analysis and configures the server based on processing of output of the data analyzing unit by interfaces (11, 13) or by the data memory. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a personal computer based data server.
