The limiter has a signal detector detecting presence of a desired signal in a reception signal (29). The signal detector comprises a delay device (24), which is designed to delay a signal derived from the reception signal around a delay time. The signal detector is provided with a minimum-detector (25), which forms a minimum-signal (34) as minimum of the signal derived from the reception signal and delayed signal derived from the reception signal. The signal detector is provided an averaging unit (26), which is designed to average the minimum-signal and to transmit a mean value signal (35). An independent claim is also included for a method for inhibiting noise in a radio frequency receiver.
