According to the invention, the pressure gradient prevailing during the release of the service brake is actively limited, wherein the degree of the limitation is set in accordance with operating conditions of the vehicle and lies within a range between no limitation and a maximum limitation. In this way, the development of noise during brake release can be positively influenced.
