The present invention relates to novel mesoporous silica particles and to a process of manufacture thereof. The invention also relates to the use of a bile acid or an alkali metal cation salt thereof, in the synthesis of mesoporous silica particles.;The present invention finds application in the fields of materials formulations, medical and biological applications, catalysis, adsorption techniques or templating of soft and hard materials.
