The invention relates to a method for fouling prevention of membranes in biological wastewater treatment plants, being remarkable in that it comprises two bioreactors (1, 2) arranged in series, wherein the operating conditions in the bioreactor (1) are adjusted to achieve F/M ratio values between 0,3 and 0,6 kg COD/kg MLSS/d and dissolved oxygen concentration between 0,2 and 1 mg/L for the controlled cultivation of filamentous bacteria allowing an FI ranging between 1 and 4, and conditions in the bioreactor (2) are adjusted to achieve F/M ratio values between 0,01 and 0,1 kg COD/kg MLSS/d, dissolved oxygen concentration between 1,5 and 3 mg/L, and to maintain FI ranging between 1 and 4.
