A method for determining the position of a moving object in an environment in which electronically detectable features are present has the steps of providing a digital representation of the environment that represents a plurality of electronically detectable environmental features and for at least some of these features also indicates respective reliability values for their detection or their derivation allows the environment to be surveyed from the perspective of the moving object, wherein the survey comprises acquiring a plurality of the electronically detectable features of the environment, evaluating the survey result with data derived from the environmental representation taking into account existing reliability values, and determining the position based on the evaluation result.
