To provide a coin identification system capable of omitting a work for replacing a coin identification device incorporated in an existing coin identification device involving a travel to a place where the existing coin identification device is installed, and a work for manually additionally setting new identification reference information to the existing coin identification device.SOLUTION: In a learning mode execution unit 140, while the authenticity of a coin 30 and a denomination are identified by a sensor information acquisition unit 141, a unique information extraction unit 142, an authenticity identification unit 143, and a denomination identification unit 144, the coin 30 is determined whether or not to be selected as a new reference setting coin that belongs to an update target denomination, as well as that is suitable for creation of new identification reference information, using an update target denomination identification unit 144a and a coin suitability identification unit 145. New unique information is extracted from at least one of a first to a third sensor information pieces related to the new reference setting coin by a new unique information extracting unit 146.
