To provide vertical hydroponics systems and vertical hydroponics methods that can prevent root rot of cultivated plants and can efficiently cultivate a plant with a small supply of nutrient solution.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a vertical hydroponics system comprising a vertical hydroponic tube 1 suspended on the ceiling of a house or standing on the floor, a culture medium 2 removably contained in a vertical hydroponics cylinder 1, and a nutrient solution supply means 4 for supplying a nutrient solution 7 from a nutrient solution storage tank 3 to the culture medium 2, the vertical hydroponics cylinder 1 comprising one or more vertical slits 11 or a plurality of openings, for planting plant seedlings or seeds in at least one direction thereof, the culture medium 2 being composed of a water-retaining sheet 21 and breathable materials 22, 23 sandwiching both sides thereof, and comprising a means for reliably collecting the nutrient solution 7 onto the water retention sheet 21 even if using a nutrient solution supply device which causes variations in a drop position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
