To provide a metal/metal oxide high-temperature storage device which has long-term stability and also shows very little storage loss even after discharging and charging cycles of more than 1,000 times.SOLUTION: A storage material has a reactive framework structure which is capable of chemically integrating, in addition to at least one reduced and/or oxidized active component, at least one form of an active component in the form of a mixed oxide or an alloy into the framework structure during charging or discharging process. A coarsening or permanent separation of the storage material can be prevented in that the active component of the storage material can be taken up, completely or to a large extent, in a reactive framework structure of the storage material during the charging or discharging process. In an oxidic framework structure, at least one stable mixed oxide consisting of the active component and an oxide from the framework structure is formed. In the metallic framework structure, the integration is achieved by forming an alloy of active components and at least one metal of the framework structure.SELECTED DRAWING: None
