To provide a thermal energy recovery system and an installation method for the thermal energy recovery system enabling effective use of a space in a vessel engine room.SOLUTION: This application discloses a thermal energy recovery system including: a condenser for cooling a working medium by exchanging heat between the working medium circulating in a circulation flow passage and seawater; an evaporator connected to an exhaust gas pipe extended to guide exhaust gas to a funnel of a vessel on a first floor provided as a layer above the sea level and the circulation flow passage and causing the working medium to recover thermal energy of the exhaust gas through heat exchange between the working medium and the exhaust gas; an expander disposed downstream of the evaporator in the circulation flow passage and driven by the working medium; and a cooling pump section for pumping up the seawater to the condenser. The condenser is disposed on a second floor provided as a layer below the first floor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
