Non-Newtonian engine oil with excellent engine wear protection and fuel economy

Non-Newtonian engine oil lubricating oil compositions having improved fuel efficiency and engine wear protection are provided. The lubricating oil composition comprises a major amount of base oil comprising a Group II base stock and an optional Group V base stock, 0.1-9.0 wt% of at least one viscosity modifier, -1.2% by weight of at least one friction modifier. This non-Newtonian engine oil lubricating oil composition has a kinematic viscosity at 100 ° C. of 10 cSt or less and HTHS (ASTM D4683) of 2.2 cP or less at 150 ° C. A method of using the lubricating oil composition and a method of making the lubricating oil composition in an internal combustion engine are also provided.
