To provide a stud welding method capable of advantageously detecting a welding pin which is not completely deposited on a metallic base material as a joined material owing to a welding defect without performing manual operation such as touching different from welding operation when performing stud welding to the base material.SOLUTION: After a welding process ends in which a welding current is supplied between a welding pin 12 held by a welding gun 18 and a substrate steel plate 14 while the welding pin 12 is pressed against the substrate steel plate 14 to weld the welding pin 12 to the substrate steel plate 14, an inspection process is implemented in which an inspection current is supplied between the welding pin 12 and substrate steel plate 14 while tensile force is made to act between the welding pin 12 and substrate steel plate 14 so as to soften a weld zone between the welding pin 12 and substrate steel plate 14, and it is checked whether the welding pin 12 and substrate steel plate 14 are separated, thereby detecting a welding pin 12 which has a defect in welding.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
