State-based operation of an imaging system including a multidimensional imaging sensor and a multidimensional imaging sensor

Methods and systems for operating imaging sensors including multi-dimensional sensors are described. The electronic processor receives the output from the multidimensional sensor and, in response to the determination by the electronic processor that the first state transition criterion is satisfied based on the output from the multidimensional sensor, removes the imaging sensor from the low power state. In response to the determination that the second state transition criterion is satisfied, the imaging sensor is transitioned from the ready state to the activated state. In some implementations, the electronic processor manipulates the imaging sensor to capture image data only when operating in the active state, preventing the imaging system from transitioning directly from the low power state to the active state.
