A novel PEGylated liposome formulation of apelin for the treatment of cardiovascular disease

The present disclosure generally relates to compositions comprising a pegylated liposome formulation of apelin for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Apelin is an endogenous ligand for the G protein-coupled APJ receptor and regulates various biological functions including fluid homeostasis, blood pressure, cardiac development and function, and multivascular remodeling. The therapeutic use of apelin peptides has been limited due to the remarkably short plasma half-life since bioactive peptides are rapidly metabolized in vivo. The present disclosure provides means for solving this problem.
