To detect a band unused period of an upstream signal at an arbitrary timing.SOLUTION: A band unused period detecting method includes: acquiring linkage information used when an optical transmission system performs bandwidth allocation; arranging information indicating a period assigned to transmission of a signal obtained from acquired cooperation information in time series on a time axis to make a transmission period pattern of the signal; dividing the time axis on the basis of a length of a frame used in a time division duplex system; creating a data set by overlaying the divided time axes; detecting information about a frame format corresponding to a data set on the basis of the generated data set and information of a plurality of frame formats of a predetermined time division duplex system; calculating a band unused period in the optical transmission system on the basis of the information about the detected frame format; and calculating a period for allocating a band in a band unused period on the basis of the reference time obtained from the cooperation information acquired first and the calculated bandwidth unused period information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
