To provide a method for manufacturing an olefin polymer extremely high reactivity from isobutylene or a mixed Chydrocarbyl supply raw material containing isobutylene consistently.SOLUTION: There is provided a manufacturing method of polybutene having at least 50 mol% of exo-olefin percentage content from isobutene or an isobutene-containing monomer supply raw material, having a process for contacting the isobutene or the isobutene-containing supply raw material and a Lewis acid catalyst complexed with a Lewis base in a practically or completely non-polar medium for polymerization, and a process for initiating polymerization of the isobutene or the isobutene-containing supply raw material using an initiator, in which the Lewis acid catalyst is Lewis acid with the formula R'AlCl, wherein R' is a hydrocarbyl group, the Lewis base is dihydrocarbyl ether, each hydrocarbyl group is selected from hydrocarbyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms independently, one or both of the hydrocarbyl groups of the dihydrocarbyl ether is substituted by an electron attractive group, the initiator is a compound having the formula RX, wherein X is halide, R is a hydrocarbyl group capable of forming stable carbocation, and the carbon binding group R to the group X is tertiary benzyl or ally and the amount of water in the supply raw material is adjusted to be about 0.05 mM to less than 5 mM per 1 L of the supply raw material.SELECTED DRAWING: None
