To provide an imaging apparatus that automatically switches visual line information to be used when selecting an area where AF is conducted so as to allow an area intended by a photographer to be selected as an area to perform AF.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: visual line detection means configured to detect a visual line of a photographer; a means configured to detect a fixation point by an output of the visual line detection means to accumulate the fixation point; and a means configured to automatically switch the number of accumulated fixation points to be used when selecting an area to conduct AF according to an imaging mode and a shutter speed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
