To provide a positive electrode active material that is used as a positive electrode material of a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and reduces a positive electrode resistance.SOLUTION: A method for producing a nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide is provided which comprises a crystallization step of giving a nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide suspension by crystallization reaction, and a separation step of subjecting the nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide suspension to solid-liquid separation and within 30 minutes thereof a heating treatment at 105 to 400°C to give a nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide. Also provided is a nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide which is a composite hydroxide represented by general formula: NiMnCoM(OH)(x+y+z+t=1; 0.3≤x≤0.8; 0.1≤y≤0.55; 0≤z≤0.4; 0≤t≤0.1; 0≤a≤0.5; and M is at least one additive element selected from Mg, Ca, Al, Ti, V, Cr and others) and which has a total carbon content of 0.1 wt% or less. Also provided is a positive electrode active material synthesized by using, as a precursor, the nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide produced by the above method.SELECTED DRAWING: None
