To provide a crane in which a length of a slinging tool is calculated and a method for calculating a length of a slinging tool.SOLUTION: The crane is equipped with a cabin 15, a gauge 22 that is arranged in the cabin 15 and extended and contracted by operation of an operator, and a control device 27 that is connected to the gauge 22 and recognizes a length of the gauge 22. When the operator performs operation so that the length Lg of the gauge 22 is identical to an apparent length La of a slinging tool 24 which the operator can see from the cabin 15, the control device 27 recognizes a distance Dh from the cabin 15 to a hook 13 and calculates a length L of the slinging tool on the basis of the distance Dh and the length Lg of the gauge 22.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
