To provide an electrolytic method capable of electrorefining a low-grade copper anode resulting from a secondary raw material such as a refining residue of a nonferrous metal and electric/electronic equipment waste, which has been difficult to refine by electrorefining to date, without causing its passivation for a long period of time, and an electrolytic solution used therefor.SOLUTION: The electrorefining method for a low grade copper electrode is characterized by employing a low grade copper anode made of a copper alloy that contains metal elements other than copper as impurities, arranging the low grade copper anode and a cathode to face each other in an electrolytic solution having high solubility with respect to a metal element that forms a chemical compound adhering to the anode, and carrying out electrolysis to recover copper on the surface of the cathode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
