To provide a suture assembly for facial lifting comprising a plurality of tissue-engaging elements.SOLUTION: A suture assembly includes an elongated flexible body 20 supporting a plurality of shaped tissue-engaging elements 30-47 in a generally spaced arrangement. The flexible body may be either a single filament or a multiple-strand braided or woven body. A curved body 14 having a sharp point is joined to one end of the flexible body while a straight pointed body 11 is joined to the remaining end of the flexible body. In alternative embodiments, the tissue-engaging elements define a variety of cross-section shapes. In a further alternative embodiment, the tissue-engaging elements are divided into first and second oppositely facing sets to provide a bidirectional suture.
