PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable accurate detection of dust having mass of no less than a certain value.SOLUTION: A dust detection device 1 includes a housing 2, collector 3, and dust sensor 4. The collector 3 is shaped such that the opening area of a first open end 31 is no less than the opening area of an inlet port 28 and is greater than the opening area of a second open end 32. A through-path 44 has an opening area that is smaller than the opening area of the inlet port 28 and the opening area of an outlet port 29. The dust detection device 1 also includes a flow velocity sensor 6 for measuring the flow velocity of sample air 91. The dust sensor 4 detects dust passing through the through-pass 44 at a detection cycle having a period shorter than a period of time obtained by dividing a length of the through-path 44 by the flow velocity measured by the flow velocity sensor 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
