The present invention is a method of monitoring the bicarbonate and sodium levels of a dialysate prepared while adding a bicarbonate component and an acidic sodium component comprising: a. Checking whether the measured total conductivity (LFist, D) is within the expected total conductivity (LFexp, D), step a. Measuring conductivity according to step b.
