PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent molten steel leaked from a head end from flowing into a continuous casting machine even when sealing of the head end of a top cast piece is not secure.SOLUTION: This head-end cooling material is provided with: a steel center member 2 having a pair of rectangular side wall parts 4a and 4b arranged oppositely to each other to extend in one direction and top board parts 5a and 5b provided to cover a part between upper ends which are one ends of the pair of side wall parts 4a and 4b in a direction orthogonal to the one direction; and a pair of steel end members 3b provided at both ends of the pair of side wall parts 4a and 4b in the one direction. The side wall parts 4a and 4b have projected parts 6a and 6b provided on a surface opposite a surface which the side wall parts 4a and 4b face so as to project in a direction opposite a direction which the side wall parts 4a and 4b face.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
