To provide a purification method which can easily and efficiently remove perchlorate, chlorate, chlorite, or hypochlorite from contaminated water or contaminated soil.SOLUTION: The purification method for purifying perchlorate, chlorate, chlorite, or hypochlorite contained in contaminated water or contaminated soil, comprises: adjusting the eluate contained in the contaminated water or the contaminated soil to a pH greater than 4 and less than 8; and having the eluate in contact with the iron and a metal powder composed of an iron alloy, with a sulfur content of 0.1% by mass or more and 5% by mass or less, at a temperature of 0 to 60°C and under atmospheric pressure.SELECTED DRAWING: None
