To provide a sublimation type thermal transfer sheet with versatility, being excellent in transfer concentration and curling resistance, and a method of producing the same.SOLUTION: A sublimation type thermal transfer sheet has a base paper, and an ink receiving layer formed on one or both sides of the base paper. The base paper has an arithmetic average roughness of 0.10-0.40 μm, and a density of 0.80-1.20. The ink receiving layer is formed from an ink receiving layer coating liquid containing a polyvinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer resin, a silicone resin, and an organic solvent. In producing the sublimation type thermal transfer sheet, an undercoat layer is formed between the base paper and ink receiving layer by cast coating.SELECTED DRAWING: None
