PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make standardization of a setting means for setting such conditions that embossment is not crushed possible in a tension roller for winding an embossed steel plate to a recoiler while giving tension to the embossed steel plate.SOLUTION: A method for calculating the maximum allowable load N(kg) of drawing down is capable of applying back tension without crushing embossment of an embossed steel plate when the embossed steel plate is subjected to drawing down with a tension roller of which an outer circumferential surface is made of a rubbery elastomer while giving tension between a recoiler and the tension roller. Therein, the maximum allowable load q(kg/mm) per embossment circumference unit length capable of pressurization without crushing embossment is experimentally determined, the whole circumferential length L(mm) of embossment existing on a tension roller nip width region of an objective embossed steel plate is calculated or measured and the maximum allowable load N(kg)is calculated by Eq.
