PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a yard position determination method and a yard position management system which can accurately acquire information related to the arrangement position of a hull block or a container in a ship building yard and store the information in a data base.SOLUTION: The position of a portable information terminal 2 is measured based on an output of a portable GPS receiver 21 by using the portable information terminal 2 which comprises a display part, an input part, and a portable GPS receiver 21 having lower accuracy than a reference position identifying GPS receiver, and is carried by an operator who moves a hull block or a container. A mutual distance calculation part 22 repeatedly calculates mutual distances between the position of the portable information terminal 2 and the center positions of a plurality of yard areas. A yard position determination part 23 determines the position of the portable information terminal 2 which is the shortest distance among the plurality of mutual distances calculated within a prescribed period as a current position. The yard position determination part 23 determines the yard position including the center position used for determining the current position as a yard position of the hull block or the container.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
