To provide an electrode material for a lithium ion battery or for a lithium ion capacitor capable of exhibiting excellent dispersibility by complementing a disadvantage of a hydrophobic active material and imparting hydrophilicity to the hydrophobic active material without reducing electrode characteristics.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an electrode material for a lithium ion battery or for a lithium ion capacitor. The electrode material consists of a material which contains composite powder in which a B component is carried on or coats a surface of an A component, and in which the A component is capable of storing and discharging lithium ions in an electrochemical manner. In the electrode material for the lithium ion battery or for the lithium ion capacitor, the B component is sulfur modified cellulose and with respect to a total quantity of the A component and the B component in 100 mass%, the B component is 0.01 mass% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
