An accessory for a mobile device for measuring the properties of a specimen is provided. Accessories include test strip adapters, telephone adapters, and couplers. The test strip adapter includes a test strip attachment for a test strip type and a first interlock shared with other test strip adapters for other test strip types. The phone adapter includes a phone attachment for mobile device models and a second interlock shared with other phone adapters for other mobile device models. The coupler includes a first interlock with the first interlock of the test strip adapter and a fourth interlock with the second interlock with the second interlock of the telephone adapter.
