A gas barrier multilayer film which has a gas barrier layer on a vapor deposited surface of a metal vapor deposited film, and wherein the OD value of the metal vapor deposited film is 1.7 or more and the oxygen barrier properties of the gas barrier layer is 600 (cc/m2·day·atm) or less; and a method for enhancing the oxygen barrier properties of a gas barrier multilayer film having a gas barrier layer on a vapor deposited surface of a metal vapor deposited film, wherein the OD value of the metal vapor deposited film is set to 1.7 or more and the oxygen barrier properties of the gas barrier layer is set to 600 (cc/m2·day·atm) or less.
