Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) level recognition of high latency devices

Systems, methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided that provide IMS level awareness of high latency devices. One method includes receiving at the network node an indication that the UE is a high latency device when the UE attaches to the EPC. The method also includes assigning the UE an IP address selected from a special IP address range specifically designated for high latency devices. When the UE performs IMS registration, the method includes determining that the UE is a high latency UE based on the UE's IP address given in the IMS registration request and specified during the EPC attach procedure.
