To provide an ultrasound observation apparatus, a method for operating the ultrasound observation apparatus, and a program for operating the ultrasound observation apparatus which are able to generate an ultrasound image distinguishable between a blood vessel and a tumor thereon in such a manner that the frame rate is prevented from being decreased.SOLUTION: An ultrasound observation apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a frequency analysis unit for analyzing the frequency of a signal generated based on an ultrasound signal to calculate a plurality of frequency spectra; a feature amount calculation unit for calculating a frequency feature amount based on the frequency spectra calculated by the frequency analysis unit; a comparison unit for comparing the frequency feature amount with a threshold value preset for the frequency feature amount; a sound ray setting unit for setting a sound ray with which Doppler scan is performed based on a comparison result by the comparison unit; and a feature amount image data generation unit for generating feature amount image data indicative of the frequency feature amount based on a blood flow detection result by Doppler scan.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
