An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a poly (meth) acrylate polymer having a high functional group introduction rate and a molecular weight controllable by allowing an acid to coexist during polymerization. In a polymerization medium containing at least one acid (A) selected from inorganic acids and organic acids (excluding the case of being a compound (B)), a thiol group and a functional group other than a thiol group are formed.
