An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a poly (meth) acrylate polymer having a high functional group introduction rate and a molecular weight controllable by allowing an acid to coexist during polymerization. In a polymerization medium containing at least one acid (A) selected from inorganic acids and organic acids (excluding the case of being a compound (B)), a thiol group and a functional group other than a thiol group are formed. A method for producing a (meth) acrylate polymer having a functional group at one end, which comprises subjecting a compound (B), a polymerization initiator (C), and a (meth) acrylate monomer (D) to radical polymerization reaction.
