PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizer capable of suppressing rotation of a polarization axis of polarized light, even when an incident angle of light entering the polarizer is enlarged, while having a high extinction ratio to light having a shorter wavelength in a UV region or the like.SOLUTION: A thin wire of a polarizer has a multilayer structure having an extinction ratio improving layer for improving the extinction ratio, and a polarization axis rotation suppressing layer for suppressing rotation of the polarization axis of polarized light, and also has a constitution in which the polarization axis rotation suppressing layer is provided on the incidence side of light entering the polarizer with respect to the extinction ratio improving layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
