PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer clad optical fiber capable of eliminating cladding mode light with suppressing local heat generation.SOLUTION: A polymer clad fiber comprises: a bare optical fiber 1 having a core 1a and a glass cladding 1b for surrounding the core 1a; and a polymer cladding layer 2 for covering the bare optical fiber 1 that is formed with a resin having a refractive index lower than a refractive index of the glass cladding 1b. The polymer clad fiber is so configured that an excitation loss is 0.1 dB/m or more at a wavelength of 915 nm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
