PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strong wind emergency driving device and method for an elevator capable of performing an optimal strong wind emergency driving in the strong wind emergency driving device installed outdoor in consideration of not only the strength of wind but the flow direction.SOLUTION: A strong wind emergency driving device for an elevator with an elevator car installed outside a building, comprises: an anemometer to measure a wind velocity; determination means to determine if the wind velocity in a predetermined direction exceeds a wind velocity limit; and avoidance means which performs an evacuation operation of the elevator in response to a determination by the determination means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
