PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a columnar member with a hat-shaped cross-section, which increases the amount of absorption energy and maximum reaction force against bending deformation.SOLUTION: A columnar member 10 includes an upper wall 12 that is elongated along a predetermined axis line, side walls 14 and 16 that are elongated along both side edges 12a and 12b of the upper wall 12, and flange parts 18 ad 20 that are elongated along edges 14a and 16a, on the other side of the upper wall 12, of the side walls 14 and 16. The columnar member 10, in which a cross-section perpendicular to the axis line O assumes an approximately hat shape, comprises at least a pair of toes of bead provided in the side walls 14 and 16.
