A method for detecting febrile neutropenia in a cancer patient by using as an index the sCD14-ST concentration in a blood specimen that is obtained from the cancer patient, and a method for selecting a febrile neutropenia patient to whom an antibiotic is to be administered by using as an index the aforesaid sCD14-ST concentration.
